Subject links to HSAEL values
It takes students out of their comfort zone (and shows growth) by:
- challenging them to experiment with new techniques, materials, and concepts. This process of exploration and experimentation encourages students to embrace risk-taking and learn from their mistakes, leading to personal and artistic growth.
It helps students tackle social injustice (and demonstrate responsibility) by:
- providing them with a platform to express and address social issues through their art. By creating works that reflect on and critique societal problems, students learn to use their voices responsibly and advocate for change, raising awareness and promoting justice.
It helps promote ambition by:
- encouraging students to set high standards for their work and pursue excellence in their artistic endeavours. Through the study of diverse artists and movements, students are inspired to push the boundaries of their creativity and aim for professional success in the art world or other fields.
It celebrates diversity (compassion) by:
- exposing students to a wide range of artistic traditions and cultural expressions. This appreciation of diversity helps cultivate empathy and understanding, allowing students to create inclusive and culturally sensitive works that honor different perspectives and experiences.
It helps students develop independence (excellence) by:
- requiring them to take ownership of their projects, from initial concept to final execution. This independence in managing their artistic process teaches students self-discipline, time management, and perseverance, skills that are vital for achieving excellence in any discipline.
