HSAEL Scholarships Programme

We are committed to providing students with the academic and cultural opportunities to help students change the world. Our scholarship programmes support students with particular talents and interests to become leaders in their chosen field. We are proud to announce this new initiative for 2025 so that students from across Newham and Tower Hamlets can benefit from the exceptional education on offer at HSAEL.

Year 7 scholarships

Scholarship package

Science

  • Membership of the Academy STEM ambassadors’ group, who receive priority for additional trips and extracurricular activities.
  • Priority to meet research scientists and visit research laboratories at local universities.
  • Opportunities to participate in local and regional science competitions.
  • An annual grant towards books or science-related activities.

Swimming

  • Swimming lessons by a qualified club-level swimming coach in Year 7-9.
  • Priority to compete for the Academy in local and regional swimming competitions.
  • Opportunities to attend swimming related enrichment activities and trips.
  • An annual grant towards equipment, swimming lessons or club fees.

Modern Languages

  • Membership of the Federation ‘future linguists’ programme, who receive priority for MFL related trips and extra-curricular activities.
  • Opportunities to participate in Federation wide languages competitions and develop pen-pals in other countries.
  • Entry into additional qualifications for other languages studied.
  • An annual grant towards resources, online subscriptions or languages related activities. 

These scholarships not linked to admissions and are offered once families have confirmed their place at HSAEL through the normal admissions round. Parents who would like their child to be considered for a scholarship should register interest as soon as possible. The formal process for awarding scholarships will be conducted in April of each admission round.

Science

  • Mentoring by the Head of Science.
  • Opportunities to attend additional lectures, seminars, and university visits.
  • Personal coaching to apply for science related disciplines at a Russell Group university.
  • An annual grant towards equipment, resources, online subscriptions (e.g. Massolit) and related activities.

Grade 9 in GCSE Combined or the science chosen.

Philosophy

  • Mentoring by the Head of Philosophy.
  • Opportunities to attend additional lectures, seminars and enter national competitions.
  • Personal mentoring to apply for Philosophy/ related disciplines at Russell Group university.
  • An annual grant towards resources, online subscriptions (e.g. Massolit), and related activities.   

Grade 9 in GCSE Religious Studies or English Literature.

Classics/ Latin

  • Mentoring by the Head of Classics.
  • Opportunities to attend additional lectures, seminars and enter national competitions.
  • Personal mentoring to apply for classics/ related disciplines at Russell Group university.
  • An annual grant towards resources, online subscriptions (e.g. Massolit), and related activities.  

Grade 9 in GCSE Latin, Ancient History or Classical Civilisations. 

 

Year 12 scholarships are awarded once students have enrolled and their GCSE qualifications have been confirmed.
