Uniform & Equipment

We are pleased to have a traditional and professional uniform for all students within our academy. 

A uniform fosters a sense of identity and community, promoting a professional attitude towards learning and creating a positive educational environment. At Harris Science Academy East London, we take great pride in our students and expect them to take pride in themselves and their Academy.

Every student should wear the uniform correctly every day, as the Academy expects the highest standards of presentation from all its pupils. Adhering to the uniform policy ensures that our students are recognized as young individuals who uphold high standards and strive for excellence.

At HSAEL, our goal is to minimize distractions, promote equality, and maintain a focus on academic achievement. Therefore, makeup, jewellery, fake nails, and eyelashes are not permitted. head scarfs and hair accessories should be plain black and Outdoor jackets should be plain black, dark blue or dark green in colour. Hoddies and leather, jean or fur(real or fake) material jackets are not permitted on site.

Specifics of School Uniform

Blazer

Black blazer with Academy colours and emblem

Shirt

White collared with top button. Short sleeved may be worn in summer. Shirts must be tucked in and with top button always done up.

School tie

Striped with Academy colours. Ties should be worn with a small knot, worn to the neck and must cover all buttons of the shirt. 

Jumper

Black V neck jumper with grey trim.

Trousers

Black classic style school trousers, long enough to cover the ankles. No slim fit, chinos or jean like material. No leggings.

Skirt

Plain black skirt – worn to below the knee.

Socks/tights

Plain black socks or plain black tights 

Bag

Harris Science Academy school bag with school logo or a plain black, blue, or dark grey colour rucksack.

Shoes

Plain black leather or leather look shoes, low heeled. No coloured stitching, logos, fancy buckles, trainers, canvas shoes or pumps are allowed.

Standard Equipment

Students must be prepared for learning when they arrive at school each day. They need to have all the necessary tools to ensure their success. We conduct daily checks on students' equipment to guarantee that every student is ready for learning. Pupils can replenish their equipment at the HSAEL stationary shop, open from 7:45am each morning while enjoying a free breakfast.

The Academy's compulsory equipment list is as follows:

  • A minimum of 2 x black pens
  • 1 x blue pen
  • 1 x red pen
  • 2 x white board pens
  • 1 x HB pencil
  • A ruler
  • 1 x rubber
  • A glue stick – with glue in
  • A scientific calculator
  • A mathematics set (protractor and compasses)
  • A reading book
  • Core knowledge book (given to Year 7s in September)

Second hand uniform

We always want to help families with uniform. If you would like to donate good-quality uniform that no longer fits your child, please contact info@harrisscienceeastlondon.org.uk to arrange a time to drop it off. If you are having difficulty purchasing uniform, please visit the Academy reception and we can support you with some second hand uniform.
